Farming has been my passion ever since I can remember. As a young child, I would accompany my father and work alongside him on the farm. As soon as I could reach the pedals, I was driving a tractor. I fell in love with the satisfaction of seeing what we planted grow into a crop, the solitude of driving a tractor, and the excitement of each season.
In high school, one summer, I created my own tomato crop and sold it as my job. I continued my education, driven by my passion for football, at Southwest Minnesota State University and then UW-Platteville, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Soil Science.
Following graduation, over the past two decades, I have had a series of great opportunities where I learned something new at each employer. Whether it was how to operate large equipment, obtain my CDL license, build relationships with farmers, or serve as a dealer representative for an international irrigation company, each experience has been invaluable.
My passion continues today, where I enjoy rolling up my sleeves, being hands-on, driving a combine, negotiating the best prices for my customers, or learning new technology—all in an effort to help farmers wherever I can.

MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) certifications, specifically Part 46 and Part 48 certifications, are mandatory for workers in the mining industry. These certifications demonstrate that a miner has received the necessary training in safety and health practices. Part 46 training focuses on surface mining, while Part 48 covers underground mining and surface mining of coal.
Key aspects of MSHA certifications:
Training Requirements: MSHA regulations outline specific training requirements for new and experienced miners. New miners must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training, while experienced miners need 8 hours of refresher training annually. Part 46 vs. Part 48:Part 46 training is typically required for surface miners, such as those working in sand and gravel operations, while Part 48 training is usually needed for underground miners and those involved in coal or metal/non-metal mining.
MSHA-Approved Instructors: For Part 48 training, instructors must be approved by MSHA, and their instructor certifications are maintained by the agency. For Part 46, while trainers don't need MSHA approval, they must be deemed competent persons by the mine operator.
Importance of Training: MSHA certification is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of miners in the workplace.
Renewals: MSHA certifications are typically valid for one year and require annual renewal to maintain compliance with current safety regulations. MSHA Approval and Certification Center (A&CC):This center evaluates and tests mining products to ensure compliance with federal regulations and issues approvals for their use in mines
